John Ewing

John Ewing, Tea, Coffee, Wine Merchant and General Grocer, 200, Argyle Street.—

In connection with the grocery trade of Glasgow, one of the most thoroughly representative houses is the firm of John Ewing, tea, coffee, wine merchant, and general grocer. Established nearly half a century ago in the west end of Argyle Street, increase of business compelled Mr. Ewing to remove to his present more commodious premises, which consist of a very large double shop, elegantly fitted to show a very valuable stock of teas, coffees, &c., wines, brandies, whiskies, &c., &c., and all the fine class of goods belonging to the Italian warehouse. The trade, which is extensive, wholesale and retail, extends all over the city and to the country.

Mr. Ewing, from his high personal sympathies, has won the esteem and respect of a large circle of social friends, and, in connection with his own trade, he has held the office of chairman and treasurer of the Grocers’ Company, the highest honour that can be conferred by the trade upon one of its members.
