Alexander Hunter

Alexander Hunter, Family Grocer and Wine Merchant, 114, Sauchiehall Street.—

The grocery and wine trade of Glasgow finds ample illustration in the celebrated establishment conducted by Mr. Alexander Hunter in the above well-known thoroughfare. This house was founded at the present address by a Mr. Clelland in 1840, and since then has passed through a change of proprietorship, the present owner having held the same for over three years.

There is an excellent double-fronted shop, with plate-glass windows and superior internal fittings for the display of stock. All the goods held in the grocery line are of the best and finest quality, a very noteworthy feature in the stock being the immense pile of wines and whiskies. These liquors are imported by the world-famed house of W. & A. Gilbey, for whom Mr. Hunter is the local agent. The firm’s special blend of tea will be found to yield that genuine satisfaction ever associated with an article of true excellence.

A full staff of hands are employed, and the business is well organised in every particular. Mr. Hunter is a gentleman practically acquainted with all details of the business, and is highly respected by the trade and his patrons.
