ALEXANDER GRACIE

THE Managing Director of Fairfield Shipbuilding and Engineering Company is a native of Dunvegan in Skye, and spent his early years in Moidart, on the Sound of Mull. He was trained as an engineer, and his original appointment at Fairfield was as engineering manager. He is now, however, the working head of the famous Clydeside firm. He was a member of the committee which designed the cruiser-battleships of the Indomitable type, and on the completion of the first of these, the Indomitable itself, in the Fairfield yard in 1908, the King conferred upon him the membership of the Royal Victorian Order. Mr. Gracie married, in March, 1904, Catherine Fullarton, daughter of the late Walter Rutherford, Glasgow.
